Save the Queen

(Final Degree Project)

Final degree project ‘Save the Queen’ which aims to visualize the important task which bees carry out in the ecosystem —pollinating plants in order to enable reproduction— through the creation of planters or pots designed to be hanged from the rooftops of the buildings within the city of Barcelona. Through these compositions and the cooperation of the neighbours, an exterior space is created so that urban bees can be provided with multiple food sources.

The vertical structure which the pots compose form a link between the people living in adjacent buildings, laying out the devastation which bee disappearance can cause and providing them with a living being in common: a plant.

The pots are created combining techniques used for basket weaving and sailing knots. An investigation focused on materials is carried out in order to create the pots in the most environmentally friendly way possible for the project to be coherent.
